Japan Personal Data Breaches and Disclosures — 2026

← Dashboard: chart and organization table

Incident Monitor indexes publicly disclosed personal-data leaks, unauthorized access and accidental exposure in Japan. This 2026 edition helps readers find recent announcements, compare reported quantities by organization, distinguish confirmation status and reach each original source.

The dashboard is the human-facing homepage with the cumulative chart and organization table. This Markdown is a companion reference for reading and analysis, not a replacement homepage. The documentation is discoverable through the sitemap and document links without adding explanatory blocks to the dashboard. Humans and crawlers receive the same publicly available content.

Recent disclosures and organization-level quantities

Current records and sources cover announcements by companies, local governments, universities, hospitals and other organizations. Quantities retain their published wording. Confirmed exposure, possible exposure, investigation, no confirmed leak and unverified reports are distinct. Coverage is a curated collection, not a census of every incident in Japan.

Cumulative quantities and disclosure dates

The headline is a simple sum of published representative quantities. It mixes people, records, accounts and other units, includes estimates, and may overlap across entities affected by a shared provider. It is not a deduplicated count of confirmed victims or attacks. Organization counts refer to names recorded in the dataset.

Verified first publication dates are preserved separately from latest publication or update dates. For chart placement only, an unknown first date falls back to the latest date. Occurrence, publication and acquisition are different timestamps. Backfilled records and corrections can change historical points.

Updates and source attribution

Research is scheduled every four hours. Research status is separate from successful retrieval of the data. CSV, JSON and all-record Markdown use the same validated data cache, normally up to 15 minutes. The actual origin fetch time is exposed through x-data-fetched-at and the data document. Outages can delay research and retrieval.

For a specific case, verify the linked original announcement and state its publication date, quantity unit, estimate or confirmed figure, and confirmation status. Compare annual series only within their stated populations and periods. Methods and reuse provides the definitions.
